Signature Blend has not won me over

I always look forward to the aroma when opening a fresh bag of coffee beans. These were very disappointing as the aroma was of slightly stale old coffee, very much as you expect from a bag of supermarket coffee. When poured into the hopper, it was clear that the beans were not a uniform colour, with beans varying from mid brown to dark brown. Produced a decent crema from the brew, but not a very interesting flavour, dark and a bit musty. I have tried various grind sizes and brew temps but I can't achieve a brew that I really enjoy.
